Summer at Høvringen
The summer at Høvringen offers many hiking opportunities, and Formokampen is one of the best. Høvringen is known for its beautiful hiking terrain, which is suitable for everyone - from children to grandparents to active mountain enthusiasts and athletes. There are relatively nice climbs, and every meter climbed is rewarded back with spectacular views of Rondane, Jotunheimen and Dovrefjell.
Høvringen and Rondane have left their mark on Norwegian cultural history. On his journey through Gudbrandsdalen, P. Chr. Asbjørnsen was a guest at Høvringen in 1842. The stay formed the basis for the story of Peer Gynt who met both the Bøygen and the trolls in Rondane. 20 years later, Asbjørnsen's fairy tale "Reindeer Hunting at Rondane" formed the basis for Henrik Ibsen's drama "Peer Gynt". Traces of Asbjørnsen's trip to Rondane can be found at the Peer Gynt cabin, where the tour group carved their names into a rock.
Kristin Lavransdatter in Sigrid Undset's famous novel can be seen with her father in the mountains in "Kransen". Here Høvringen is portrayed with an atmosphere of adventure and the supernatural. Åsmund Olavson Vinje has given Rondane a central place in "Ferdaminne", and later Edvard Grieg set the tone for his poem "Ved Rondane". Erik Werenskjold, Hans Gude and not least Harald Sohlberg found motifs for well-known paintings in Rondane, and the painting "Winter Night in Rondane" has been chosen as Norway's national painting.
